Day 10: Fruit Juice

I got 5 hours of sleep last night, and I have been dragging all day. I knew if I took a nap, that it would turn into a 4 hour long siesta, so took quite a few breaks from work.ย  Good thing I’m not on anyone’s time clock, because I did not get productive until after lunch, and even then, it was slow going.

I did manage to make a new recipe this morning through a sleep-fogged brain, and it wasn’t too bad – a bit too thick for my liking though. A little water in the blender with it should help thin it out. I will probably strain it tomorrow – or not, since as we all know, we need the fiber to go…

I did not get a photo today. I will do that when I have better light tomorrow, so I’ll just include the recipe here until the photo is taken. If you’re diabetic, you may want to cut this by half or more with water. It’s sweet.

Pineapple – Tropical Fruit – Cocktail Fruit Juice

In a blender:

Pour 1 can of pineapple, juice and all.
Pulse till smooth.
Pour 1 can of Tropical fruit, juice and all.
Pulse till smooth.
Drain 1 can of fruit cocktail.
Discard the liquid and pour the fruit into the blender.
Pour 1/2 a bottle of unprocessed, unsweet apple juice into blender.
Blend for 5 minutes.
Let sit overnight in the refrigerator for flavors to mingle.
Reblend individual servings to smooth out the pulp.
Juice may be cut by half with cold water to cut sweetness.

Day 8: I0.6lbs down

Day 8: Today was not a good day. Not in terms of hunger, because I met – or will meet my goal before bedtime, but I was in some incredible pain today. Blame it on my stupidity yesterday for cleaning out one the totes I’m using for gardening. I had let it fill up with grass seeds instead of covering it after I’d pulled out the kale at the start of summer, and I ended up pulling the entire pile of dirt up out of the box — Ouch! Hopefully I got all the grass roots out, but I’m paying for it. Even a double dose of ibuprofen and BioFreeze hasn’t helped. My sails were a bit low today.

On a much more positive note, I’m down 10.6lbs from when I started; I’ve got plenty of energy; and my juicing experiences are becoming more creative. I’ve also concentrated today on getting in all of my liquids today – water included, and I will have that in before bed, so YAY! me!! ๐Ÿ™‚ You have no idea how hard this has been, but I think I have found something that is going to work for the next 22 days – Now would be a good time to invest in ReaLemon. ๐Ÿ˜€

I wanted something garlicky with tomatoes for my last juice of the day, and since I’m out of tomatoes, I used a jar of mild salsa. Salsa was the perfectย addition since I’m also out of onions. You might like your juice a bit spicier, so I would go with a medium salsa, and add extra garlic – or if you can eat tomatoes and onions without any problems, definitely go with fresh produce on this, and add half of a small, white onion.

Let me know if you try the juice, and leave some love in the comments when you drop in!

See you tomorrow.

Day 7: Peppers and Artichoke Hearts

Day 7: It was a beautiful day! Full of a funny pup who won’t be getting her debut today because I forgot my camera, cleaning out the containers for the fall garden, and coming up with a new recipe which will be going into my “Top 10” list.

I had an aching back this morning from getting cold last night – which reminds me – I need to close windows now! lol Thank goodness for BioFreeze! It was the only way I could even function today. (It’s magic, but don’t tell my chiropractor that!) ๐Ÿ˜€

I am off to make my last, and final drink for the night, so before I bid you, “Adieu,” here is the recipe for today!

(Check out “My Juicing Recipes” at the top right of the page for more!)

I hope you enjoy, and if you try it out, let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 6: Sweet Potato and Greens Day

Day 6 – I can’t believe I’ve lasted this long. As I told you yesterday (or maybe the day before) I was down to frozen greens and fruits, and canned fruit. Thankfully, I found an unopened jar of unprocessed, unsweetened apple juice in the pantry, so YAY! I can add some of that to my juices.

Today wasn’t bad – just agonizingly slow! I started out good, but when you’re juicing, if you do anything strenuous, it will wipe out your energy quick if you’re not drinking fresh juice at least every 2 hours. So, I had a busy, no-time-for-juice morning, and my energy was shot by noon. Well, I did get one in, but nothing again until 1:30pm, so my energy fell pretty fast. Lots of time to do some journaling, planning out the rest of the week, and I did resist the urge to take a nap!

I’ve got a new recipe for you to try here. A little yellow, and a double-dash of green, with curry and turmeric powders. Y-U-M! ๐Ÿ™‚ Leave some love in the comments when you drop by — I’ll see you tomorrow!

Day 5: Double the recipe

I had a great day today! I had no headaches, and just a few minor aches and pains, but nothing major. The longer I stay on this fast, and I realize I’m still a “noob” in this regard, the more i want to follow the vegan lifestyle. I may include fish from time to time, but I want to concentrate mainly on whole fruits and vegetables.

I was directed to a wonderful video series featuring “Dan the Man”. He sounds like he knows what he’s talking about with the vegan lifestyle unlike your obese doctors who are telling you to lose weight, who are not taught nutrition in med school!

Other sites I was told about include the vegetarian sites: vegetariantimes.com, jazzyvegetarian.com, christinacooks.com , and allrecipes.com‘s vegetarian section.

Ok, enough chatter – I have two new recipes for you tonight. I am pretty excited about the first one, because it just looks so darn good, and it was just as refreshing as it looked, but the second one is just as delicious! ๐Ÿ™‚

Whether you do or do not like beets, you have to try this. There is no “dirt” taste that some people find offensive to their taste buds, and it’s a sweet juice. It does need to be equally mixed with water. Pineapple – Beet Juice.

The other recipe I want to share is theย  Pumpkin – Almond Milk Shake. No, you do not get to add any ice cream or frozen yogurt to thicken it up. Sorry! This is a low-cal, very smooth drink, and best served cold. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy! Let me know what you think if you try them!

Day 4

I had a good day. My energy has returned, and I got a good night sleep last night. I have a few aches and pains, but some are due to having osteoarthritis, and no cartilage in my hips. The back pain I’m having may or may not be due to the juicing fast. I’ll have to give that a few days, and hope it clears up. I still have a headache, but I believe that’s from the cataracts I have, and the eye strain from sitting in front of the computer. It would be wonderful if juicing healed everything in my body. God performs miracles, so I guess we’ll see! ๐Ÿ™‚

I made a new juice today, but since I’m not having it until tomorrow, I will post the pic and recipe then, and I’m not spilling the details. =D It looked great. I did not have a taste, because I didn’t want to ruin my experience tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚ As for today, I had the broth I made last night. Recipe here.

See you soon!

Day 3

What a great day! I woke up with no headache, my energy level was high and I was able to clean out a closet! I am looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings. I spent some time on Join the Reboot, juiced a repeat of what I had yesterday (Recipe), cooked a pot of soup using left over pulp (check the recipe here: Sweet Potato – Carrot Soup), and made (6) 4″ pancakes from the pulp when I strained the soup. I froze those since I won’t be eating for the next 27 days!

I’m now on my 4th (and final) juice – eh, soup – for the day. lol I am supposed to be drinking water with this fast, but I haven’t even finished my 3rd glass! I tell ya, I just do not like drinking water. I am going to have to start dropping pieces of fruit in it for some flavor – I’ll just have to resist the urge not to eat the fruit. I’ve been feeling like I could gnaw on a bone all day! lol

So, here’s a sneak peek at the broth I made today. Be sure and check out the recipe! ๐Ÿ™‚

This is one of the six pancakes I made with the pulp. That dark green in there is kale that I added for some additional nutrients. Yes, kale! Everything smelled so good, I can’t wait to bite into one! ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 2

Today is day 2 of my juice fast. Except for a headache right between my eyes that has, thankfully, eased somewhat, I feel fine. I had a cup of hot green tea with lemon first, and I’ll be having Blackberry-Veggie Juice for the rest of the day. (More on this later.) I could go for a big bowl of kale-navy bean soup minus the sweet potato – my version of the Kale, White bean, and Sweet Potato Soup from Whole Living, which, by the way, is delicious. I’ve fixed it both with and without the sweet potatoes, and either way, it’s a creamy soup. The kale adds a great splash of color, along with a healthy pack of vitamins and minerals!

The juice I’m having today is a delicious Blackberry-vegetable juice. It’s a bit sweet since it has both blackberries and carrots, so I’ve cut the juice with water by half. You can click the image for a larger view. ๐Ÿ™‚

In your juicer!

2 large carrots, ends removed
2 Gala apples, cored
1/2 small lemon, zest removed
1 stalk celery, leaves removed

Thaw, press, and remove seeds from 1 cup of frozen blackberries.
Pour into juiced vegetables.

Add up to 1/2 the liquid amount in cold water,
Pour over ice (if desired) and enjoy!

Update: I realize I have Days 1 & 2 running together. That’s what happens when you start your blog just before midnight, and post it after! LOL ๐Ÿ˜€
